This beautiful station building is situated on the site of the original station which was operational from 1861 – 1965, and has been rebuilt in the style of a typical Great Western Railway building of the Victorian/Edwardian era. The station is divided into two self-contained holiday lets, The Booking Office (a three bed property) and The Waiting Room (a two bed property). For larger groups, both cottages can be booked to provide sleeping for up to 10 people. Directly opposite the station there are large lawns to enjoy garden games, sun lounging or to simply enjoy a peaceful read. This is a truly wonderful country retreat to sit out in the gardens or on the platform and just soak in the country air! We’re very fond of just sitting and listening to the birds singing and the breeze brushing through the trees – and the occasional train rolling past, of course!
The Booking Office
Briefly, the three bedroom property comprises of a spacious entrance lobby with utility area, downstairs shower room with WC, good size & well-equipped kitchen with exposed brick archway through to large open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms (two kings with en-suite and one twin) and a family bathroom.
Outside guests can enjoy a meal or drink sitting out on the platform patio and enjoy the historic feel come rain or shine, sheltered by the station overhang. Please note the platform is not enclosed and although you enjoy your own seating and dining space, the platform is effectively shared with the Waiting Room next door. The whole platform edge has secure fencing along the boundary to the railway line.
There’s also a large communal lawn area immediately opposite the cottages where guests can play garden games (provided), or play with your K9 friend!
