Welcome to Wiltshire’s only original 1940’s Railway Carriage which has been lovingly refurbished to provide a quirky space with kitchenette and en-suite. It is nestled in the paddock of a former dairy farm beside the London to Bristol main railway line.
Railway enthusiasts will have an absolute ball here as we’re just up the road to STEAM – Museum of The Great Western Railway which now boasts a working replica of the town’s Railway Works hooter. The (heritage) Swindon & Cricklade Railway is also on our doorstep and operates on a short section of the former Midland and South Western Junction Railway line between Swindon and Cricklade. Didcot Railway Centre is just a 45 minute drive away too so why not do the ‘Train Lover’s Triangle’.
Airy, bright and aptly ‘fox’ themed to give homage to the resident fox, the railway carriage is a unique place to watch the trains go by or kick back and relax. The kitchenette is well appointed as is the compact but rather cute en-suite shower room together with its porthole window.
A private secluded outdoor area which overlooks the paddock, railway line and fields beyond is yours to use at your leisure and includes an extra wide double sunlounger overlooking the paddock and railway line, a table with two chairs and a stone built firepit. If you don’t fancy cooking for yourself then why not treat yourself to a wonderful culinary experience at one of the local eateries including an award winning delicatessan. Two private car parking spaces are included beside the carriage itself.
We are here to make your stay special, stress free and memorable. If you require help, we are here for you, if you require privacy, we’ll be discreet. We’d be delighted to order flowers, recommend a takeaway, point you to local places to visit or take you to the beginning of The Ridgeway Trail and collect you later (booking essential and charges apply for the latter).
The base is also ideal for those wishing to take in The Ridgeway Trail, university city of Oxford, Roman city of Bath, metropolis of Bristol and the famous Cotswolds. It is also convenient for those wishing to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) which is just 20 minutes away. If you’re after retail therapy, you’ll love to meander around the shops in search of bargains at the McArthur Glen Great Western Designer Outlet Village. There is something for everything in Swindon with activities to suit adventure seekers and those wishing to have some ‘down time’.
Our accommodation is on the No 66 bus route which travels regularly between Swindon and Oxford. The nearest railway station is Swindon and we are just 5 minutes from the M4 (Junction 15).
We look forward to welcoming you to the railway town of Swindon and all it has to offer.
