The GWR Brake Van

DESCRIPTION

GWR ‘Toad’ Brake Van 35251 was built in 1947, developed from an1890s original design. Renovation and conversion has taken us over 2 years, resulting in a unique accommodation.

Now residing at Platform 2, our green platform at Rowden Mill Station, and adjacent to our cattle dock, the Brake Van sleeps 2 in comfort while immersing guests in the carefully preserved heritage of this historical railway artifact.

With its full width picture window filling an end wall the Brake Van has a prime view overlooking the whole station site, giving guests a ring-side seat to witness the ever changing countryside views.

We supply binoculars for guests who would like to pick out birds and other wildlife.

This former veranda now houses the kitchen facilities in the Brake Van. Small but perfectly formed, consisting of: a two-ring gas hob with extraction fan, an under-counter fridge/freezer, kettle, cafetiere, microwave oven and toaster, sink and drainer. All the usual  pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and utensils. Shelves above the kitchen top houses our complimentary caddies and condiments.

Main Salon
While the kitchen area provides the views across the station site, the atmospheric wood-panelled main salon is a private space equipped with a full size double bed, feature lighting and period posters.

Guest facilities include shelves, coat hooks, luggage rack and a large under-bed storage drawer. Also in the main salon a projection TV system provides Netflix with paid subscription, UK catch-up TV and other online channels along with guest wi-fi.

Bathroom
Located at the far end of the Brake Van the well proportioned en-suite bathroom provides all the expected facilities including a substantial shower cubicle, heated mirror and heated towel rail.

Outside
Set in the wider natural environment which surrounds platform 2, the Brake Van directly accesses the recently renovated cattle dock, now accommodating a good sized picnic bench, sun shade and extensive outdoor kitchen with gas bbq. Parking is accessed through the original station yard gateway, guest parking is close-by but unobtrusive.

Located in North Herefordshire, Rowden Mill is a former GWR station along the Leominster Bromyard Worcester branch line.
